Heart Stings

by Ori C. Li

And though I have searched

And searched

In my heart for the life of you

I have not found even a single

Heartbeat.

Nor have I breathed a single breath

Without thinking

Of where you might be.

I am slowly unraveling into a frozen

Ocean, becoming

Riddled with biting frost

And pneumonia—

Yet it is nothing

nothing

Compared to the pain

You have bore,

Perhaps pain

That was meant to give way

To some kind of sacrifice,

So that we could all live

To suffer your absence.
