Untitled
A self portrait centering around my eyes. My eyes have always been the center of microaggressions for me and this painting represents my journey of coming to love myself as Asian.

A self portrait created to represent my complicated relationship with my own identity, moving and shifting within my own idea of who I am.
Cracks in the Narrative
10x11 Oil Paint on Panel and Digital Design
A depiction of a person of color emerging from a plaster statue commonly found in public art institutions. A piece commenting on the overly white narrative of art history and the idea that statues found in museums were actually once vibrant with color.

The intention behind this painting is to produce a self portrait inspired by the theme ‘Flowers.” Here, the light and vivid colors of the flowers signify the fragility of a flower’s beauty and how, similarly, I am also fragile to certain circumstances I face in my life. The lines along the middle of the frame, which portrays the bust of the subject, was inspired by the cubist art movement where the geometric shapes formed within the complex lines ultimately procure my human form. I also want to mention the choice of colors I’ve used in this work. The background, compared to the subjects in the foreground, is much darker which makes it simpler for me to emphasize the subjects I want to stand out in this frame– the flowers and me submerging in them. As for the aggressive brush strokes I’ve produced all over the canvas, I had done so in order to give it more texture and I think this is something I have done really well in correlation with the rest of the body of work. The distorted lines are meant to give definition to my character as a person – that it too, is not perfect.
Radiating Auras is an artwork as a whole with 3 parts, 3 different hands made of cement radiating different auras. Each has its own special aura similar to how each person has their own unique aura and energy. She leaves the interpretations of the colors open to the public.

Remnants
This piece was inspired by my grandfather. Each day after dinner, he lovingly peels fruit for me while telling me stories from his youth; his trips to Hong Kong with my grandmother where his passion for gemstone collecting manifested as well as his time as the national evaluator of emeralds in Pakistan. By the time we’re both done talking, huge mounds of fruit peels are left and so I painted this piece to capture the remnants of our conversations.

Peach
This is a mixed media piece I attempted after witnessing all the leftover newspaper and plastic surrounding fruit shops in Karachi. Taking some of this trash, I tore it in pieces and pasted it on a loose piece of paper to further emphasize the idea of recycling. I then painted over it with acrylics.

Coffee Soup Tea
This piece embodies equilibrium. The duality of the two bowls imparts a sense of repetition and establishes a sense of equilibrium between them. The reflected image is a concept that I believe is quite evident in this painting; it illustrates how even though two objects appear to be identical, they may not be. I was inspired to create this piece by a bowl I spotted in a coffee shop. It demonstrates how, even when something is repeated, it is not always detrimental.

Essentials
All three components of this piece were created separately, but when combined, they complemented one another. It depicts how I felt; as humans, we take for granted what has been handed to us, hence the "self-deprecating" head. I wanted to demonstrate how we as humans do not take as much care of our bodies as we should and how the epidemic taught us that we can spiral lower and ruin our own mental and physical health.
